Is a PhD necessary?
A PhD would be necessary for certain positions in academia and research. For instance, most universities require a doctoral degree (PhD, DBA, EdD, etc.) to teach Masters and Doctorate level courses. However, whether a PhD is required is entirely dependent on the situation. If currently in a career that does not require a PhD, then the question becomes whether or not to pursue a doctorate (PhD). There are several pros and cons to consider for whether a PhD should be pursued, including time and money. For this decision, consider the return on investment (ROI), cost-benefit, along with any intangible factors.
