What type of questions are in a questionnaire?
The types of questions in a questionnaire depend on the topic and context of the inquiry. Generally, there are three types of questions - demographic/descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative. Demographic/descriptive questions are often asked to either (a) qualify participants for the study, or (b) understand the population sample. Qualitative questions are open-ended, seeking narrative/essay-type responses. Finally, quantitative questions are included to collect numerical data - either nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio. For doctoral research, surveys (a form of questionnaire) are often applied for quantitative studies and use Likert-type scales for the collection of ordinal data, e.g., 0–4, 1–7. etc.
