Why can't the words "impact, effect, and performance" be used as part of the title in a research paper, particularly a qualitative research paper?

Words such as “impact” and “effect” carry the connotation of causation, which is quantitative. As such, one should be careful how or whether to use these terms, especially for qualitative research. Rather, focus on qualitative terms, such as how, why, or what. In some instances it may be acceptable to combine terms, as long as a qualitative focus is clear. For instance,

  • What effect/impact does the corona virus have on the economy? (clearly quantitative and not appropriate for qualitative)

  • How does the spread of the corona virus imact/effect/affect the economy? (combined words with a qualitative focus)

    • Note that “affect” and “effect” have very similar meanings and implications in the regard

The term “performance” would appear to equally apply to both qualitative and quantitative research, depending on its use. To illustrate:

  • To what extent does compensation relate to employee performance? (quantitative)

  • Why does compensation relate to employee performance? (qualitative)

    • Note that the relationship between compensation and employee performance must had previously been established.
