I manipulated data for my study. Would you forgive me if confessed? What should I do?

Manipulating data - similar to plagiarism, is not ethical and has consequences. Confession is good, but does not change the need for correction with the possibility of imposed penalties. Regardless, your question asks about forgiveness, versus ethics or outcomes. For this, as the student’s PI/chair/advisor, forgiveness is not mine to give as nothing has been done (harm) to me personally. Rather, as a representative of an academic institution, it is my responsibility to uphold and report, when needed, academic integrity violations - including withdrawing the paper from the review process. I would, and have, continue serving as the PI for this student through the steps that follow, as permitted.
